The Transform Foundation has received a large donation from a philanthropist to establish a charity incubator. This will function like many of the leading tech incubators such as Y Combinator, Seedcamp or Entrepreneur First, but purely for the purpose of creating scalable registered charities or social enterprises.

In 2018, applications for the first batch of the Transform Incubator will open. The Transform Incubator will provide new charities and other not-for-profit organisations in the United Kingdom with a grant of £10,000, 6 months of office space, legal support and mentorship from some of the UK’s leading social entrepreneurs and technologists.

The Transform Incubator is a 6-month program culminating in a Donor Day where participants will have the opportunity to pitch to dozens of the UK’s leading philanthropists and grant making organisations.

There are 166,311 charities in the United Kingdom as of September 2016, however only 6,971 of these charities have reached an annual income of £1 million. Many new charities lack the expertise and resources to reach their initial goals. The Transform Incubator aims to improve the chances that ambitious young charities will achieve large scale impact.

While the incubator or accelerator model has exploded to over 1,000 programs worldwide over the past decade, almost all of these are dedicated to supporting for-profit companies. The Transform Incubator will take some of the best practices from the leading for-profit programs and deliver these in a tailored format to the UK nonprofit sector.
